      • Our Purpose

We are a collective of musicians and artists uniting as a creative response to the attacks, kidnappings, killings, and inhumane treatment of communities and families terrorized by ICE and law enforcement in the United States.

      • Flags in the Stands

The eyes of the world were on Super Bowl LX, and CONTRA-ICE ensured they saw more than just a game.

We distributed thousands of rally towels designed by our co-founder and renowned cartoonist, Lalo Alcaraz, featuring an illustration of a “Bad Bunny” kicking a football encased in a block of ICE. The bunny grips a Green Day–heart-grenade, a clear nod to their album American Idiot, symbolic of love, rage, and resistance turned against authoritarian power—while “ICE OUT” on the other side of the towel, lands like a chant rising from the stands. The image fuses pop culture, sports spectacle, and dissent into a single, subversive protest visual.

        NYTimes

“At the entrance of Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., activists handed out towels reading “ICE OUT” to attendees … The other side of the towel featured a QR code, urging fans to hold up the “ICE OUT” side of the towel every time a Super Bowl referee throws a penalty flag as ‘collective penalty flags against ICE.’ Contra-ICE, an organization led by musicians and artists, was responsible for towel distribution.”

        USA Today

“… several activists gave more than 15,000 towels with the words ‘ICE OUT’ to fans attending the Super Bowl, hoping they would raise them throughout the game and during Bad Bunny’s halftime performance, to protest the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement operations. The gesture, called ‘Flags in the Stands,’ was organized by Contra-ICE, a coalition of artists, musicians, and community organizers.”
